CHARLY & JOHAYRON
Reggaeton

CHARLY & JOHAYRON

Charly & Johayron is a Cuban urban music duo consisting of Carlos de Jesús Coronado Chirino (Charly) and Roberto Johayron Amores Rodríguez (Johayron), who have become one of the most successful and popular acts in current Cuban reggaeton. Their story began over five years ago when social media facilitated their union. Both artists recall how they occasionally coincided at early recording studios when each was working with their independent duos. The chemistry was so spontaneous that they cannot pinpoint the exact moment they became Charly & Johayron. It all started when one shared a song on social media and the other didn't hesitate to send positive comments, initiating a collaboration that would change their lives. Curiously, both dreamed of becoming singers from age 13, even without knowing each other. Since then, their only goal has been to achieve success, take Cuba's name to the top, and have thousands of people singing and enjoying their songs. Their music is primarily framed in reggaeton with lyrics addressing themes of love and heartbreak, deeply connecting with Cuban youth. Among their biggest hits is "El Punto" (2024), in collaboration with El Taiger and Bebeshito, produced by Ernesto Losa and Roberto Ferrante under the Planet Records label. Other notable tracks include "Niveles Son Niveles", "El Error", "El Fallo", and "Mujer Igual Que Tú". The duo has achieved important milestones in their career, including their participation in the Vibra Urbana festival, where they shared the stage with major international artists, and their attendance at Premios Lo Nuestro 2024 in Miami. In April 2024, they filled Miami's James L. Knight Center with approximately 5,000 attendees, consolidating their international presence. Their trajectory has not been without controversy. In September 2023, they suffered a violent assault in Las Tunas when furious fans stoned their bus after canceling a concert, resulting in damage to their equipment and instruments, and injuries to team members, including Johayron. They have also faced criticism for their ambiguous political position regarding the Cuban government, especially after avoiding comments about the March 2024 social protests. Despite successful tours in the United States, the duo has expressed their commitment to Cuba, ensuring they will continue returning to the island. El Charly arrived in the United States in March 2023 through family reunification, while Johayron has maintained his residence in Cuba. With over 800,000 Instagram followers and a YouTube silver plaque for surpassing 100,000 subscribers, Charly & Johayron continue to be known as "los lápices de Cuba pal mundo" (Cuba's pencils for the world).

El Micha
Reggaeton

El Micha

El Micha (real name: Michael Fernando Sierra Miranda) is a Cuban singer, songwriter, and producer of reggaeton born September 12, 1981, in Reparto Eléctrico, Havana, Cuba. He proclaimed himself for years as the "first Cuban reggaetonero" and is one of the most controversial figures in Cuban urban music. He discovered his passion for music at age 8 while listening to salsa and merengue songs on the radio. Although his family had no musical tradition, his interest was so strong that he began composing his own songs. Before dedicating himself to music, El Micha was an athlete, standing out in basketball during his adolescence. In his early days, he was part of the duo El Micha and Elvis Manuel, with whom he recorded tracks like "Dale Mambo", which became a hit in Cuba during the early years of reggaeton on the island. However, the partnership ended tragically in 2008 when Elvis Manuel disappeared in the Florida Straits attempting to reach the United States by raft, and was never heard from again. As a solo artist, El Micha achieved great popularity with songs that became Cuban reggaeton anthems, including "Quiero que se enteren", "Con dinero y pasmao", "Si se va a formar", "Ella No Te Quiere" (in collaboration with Chocolate MC in 2010), "Anda" (with Gente de Zona in 2013), "Dejate de Bobería" (with Yomil y El Dany), and "Arroz con mango" (with Lenier Mesa). One of the most famous rivalries in Cuban reggaeton was his "tiradera" (rap battle) with Chocolate MC, with whom he exchanged multiple songs of insults and direct attacks. El Micha released the track "Que vaya el Choco", while Chocolate MC responded with his own diss tracks, generating a media war that divided genre fans for years. El Micha never received formal musical training nor studied at conservatories. He is completely self-taught as a singer, songwriter, and producer. Despite this, he received support from the Cuban government for years, which recognized his talent and provided him opportunities to perform on national television and official festivals, something unusual for artists without academic training. His political position has been one of the most criticized aspects of his career. Initially seen as an artist sympathetic to the Cuban regime, in 2021 he seemed to switch sides by releasing "Un sueño", a song many interpreted as a message supporting freedom. However, to many's surprise, in 2024 he returned to Cuba and resumed performing on the island, which generated strong criticism from diaspora sectors who accused him of political opportunism. El Micha resides in Miami with his wife Ana María Daniel and their children Dylan and Amanda. The family arrived in the United States in May 2022 after passing through Nicaragua, a migration route used by thousands of Cubans. In 2024, following the death of his colleague and friend El Taiger, El Micha paid tribute to him with the song "José", dedicated to his memory. With over two decades of career, El Micha remains an influential though divisive figure in Cuban reggaeton, recognized for his innate talent for composition and production, but constantly questioned for his political decisions and his back-and-forth between Cuba and Miami.

Manolín El Médico de la Salsa
Salsa

Manolín El Médico de la Salsa

Manolín "El Médico de la Salsa" (Manuel González Hernández) is a Cuban singer, songwriter, and bandleader born on March 18, 1965, in Guantánamo, Cuba. He is one of the most iconic and controversial figures in Cuban timba, a genre he dominated on the island's music scene during the 1990s. A medical school graduate, he was nicknamed "El Médico de la Salsa" (The Doctor of Salsa) by José Luis Cortés "El Tosco," whose legendary band NG La Banda he joined as a backing vocalist and guest composer. Without formal vocal training, Manolín stood out for his stage presence, natural charisma, and especially for his exceptional talent as a songwriter. In 1993 he released his debut album "Una Aventura Loca," which made him known throughout Cuba. This was followed by "Para mi gente" (1995), which includes his most emblematic track "La bola" —for which he won the El Artista Cubano award in 1996—, "De buena fe" (1997), and "Jaque mate" (1998). By the late '90s, Manolín topped the Havana charts, filled nightclubs, and provided original songs to groups like La Charanga Habanera, NG La Banda, and Bamboleo. His career faced its first setbacks when, through his lyrics, he called on the Miami Cuban community to "extend a hand," promoting friendship between Cubans from the island and from Florida. These lyrics were frowned upon by the Cuban government and quickly censored. He then decided to travel to Miami, where he temporarily settled, with many thinking he would be the bridge that would unite all Cubans through music. After briefly returning to Havana without the expected success, he went back to Miami and later to Europe, especially Italy, where his music was always well received. In 2001 he released the double album "El puente (Live in the USA)," and in 2012 he recorded "Tiene que ser Manolín" with Warner Music Spain. In 2024 he returned to Cuba after years of censorship, releasing his album "La Calentura" and resuming performances in venues like the Salón Rojo del Capri. Manolín has publicly denounced being censored on Cuban radio and television for over two decades, stating he was "taken out of the game" by the government when he was at the peak of his popularity. Recently, he has claimed to be a precursor of the "reparto" genre, asserting that many current urban artists built their careers on musical structures he developed in the '90s. His original band featured exceptional musicians like Luis Bu, Jeans Valdés, and Eduardo "Chaka" Nápoles, creating what many consider one of the hottest timbera essences in history.
